Welcome to OKCPecan.com, your seasonal source for pecan shelling. Don’t let the squirrels rob you of those pecans, and don’t pay $10/lb at the store! October 2019 update
Dec 2016 - we didn't shell a single pecan from the Oklahoma City area because of the bad ice storm the previous year.
Dec 2017 - we shelled approximately 10% of what we shelled in 2015.
Dec 2018 - we didn't shell a single pecan from the Oklahoma City area because we skipped spring, stressing the trees.
2019 Pecan Season - Hurray, we finally have our first good crop in 4 years, and we are looking forward to finally being able to shell your pecans again!  We will continue to use the remodelled back room of our garage as the home for our shelling machine.  And we are leaving our rates the same as they were 5 years ago.

Pricing & Service

Crack & Shell is $0.50/lb - no minimum

We sell bags of pecan hulls for $0.10/lb. Bags are approximately 40 lbs each at around $4 per bag.

Helpful Hint

Pecans that are too wet sometimes do not separate well from the shell. So, in order to get the most from your pecan shelling, the nuts should be dry. Also, older nuts from a previous season may be too dry and not separate well from the shell.

Pecan Cracking and Shelling (or Blowing)
We process your pecans in basically 2 steps:

Cracking: The pecans are put into a machine that cracks the outer shell (ideally). Our machine is from the Pecan Nut Busters company out of Florida and runs off of 110 volt using an adjustable drum which uses compression to crack the pecans.

Shelling: A commercial “blower” then separates the meats from the shell. Air is channeled through chamber where the pecan meat/shell mixture is passed, dropping the meat and larger/heavier shells through the initial chute and blowing the smaller/lighter shells into the second chute. Our blower typically blows out approximately 30% of your original weight in shells for Paper Shell pecans.

This machine works best on the Paper Shell pecans.  Our machine cracks pecans based on compression cracking which can produce more pieces than impact cracking.  We have found that Native pecans do not shell as well and produce fewer halves than it does for the Paper Shells.  We are very willing to run a sample of your pecans through our machine at no cost to allow you to decide whether you want us to shell your pecans.  We also have samples of shelled pecans in our office so that you can see how other pecans have shelled in our machine.
